The Air & Defence College is a new concept in education offering real industry job opportunities and input by guest speakers, site visits and projects to start your career in the aerospace sector.
The Air & Defence programme is designed around a full week at college, to include enrichment activities and visits to RAF bases and timetabled periods of fitness in preparation for a role in the defence industry. The programme has been developed for those who are intending to follow a career in aeronautical engineering.
The units that you will study include: Health and Safety; Working Efficiently and Effectively; Engineering Technology; Communication in an Engineering Environment; Engineering Calculations; Planning Engineering Activity and Bench Fitting and The Use of Milling Machines and Lathes.
You will need to have a minimum of 2 GCSEs at a minimum of Grade 4, including English Language and Mathematics (an approved Science-based subject is preferable for progression). You will also be required to attend a Welcome Day event (which includes a practical activity and interview) and provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report).
Assessment is a combination of practical tests and written examinations.
Successful completion of all elements of the Air & Defence course and meeting the current recruitment criteria of the RAF will facilitate fast-tracking into the Royal Air Force.
