If you wish to pursue a career in an exciting and diverse industry and are good with practical work and have an eye for detail, Engineering could be a great career for you. Taught in our industry standard mechanical & welding workshops using the latest specialist equipment, three options are available: Welding & Fabrication, Manufacturing Engineering & Maintenance Engineering. Dependant on the option chosen you will be involved in: Component & Hand Fitting Techniques, Operation of Milling & Turning Machine, MIG & MAG Welding and the use of diagnostic equipment to assist with maintenance activities.
During the course, you will study: Safe Working Practices in Engineering Environment; Working Effectively in Engineering; Using & Communicating Technical Information; Producing Components; Hand Fitting Techniques; Maintaining Mechanical Devices; Maintaining Electrical Equipment & Systems;
Completion of this programme can lead to full-time employment as Welder, Maintenance Engineer Or Manufacturing Engineer following completion of work based learning (NVQ), or other options for further education such as a Advanced Apprenticeship.
You will need GCSE’s including English and Maths (minimum Grade D). You must also be employed for a minimum of 30 hours a week.
Assessment is a combination of practical observations within the workplace and online written assignments.
