PAT Testing is a skill that can be learned by almost anyone such as office maintenance staff or landlords. Some basic electrical knowledge is useful but not essential. In a commercial environment regulations exist to ensure that every item of electrical equipment is tested and certified as being “Safe to Use”. For electrical contractors this can be a potentially lucrative new service to offer to customers.
Mode of Attendance

2 day course: approximately 8 hours delivery including theory and practical assessment and a 1hr 45min online exam. The online exam is normally scheduled about 1 week after the course to enable students to adequately prepare.

The model of delivery may be dependent upon demand. The times of attendance will be 8.30 am – 5.00pm. People with previous electrical experience may not need to attend the second day. Which will reduce the course fee.
Age Restriction (18+): due to Safety Critical Designation of Training.
There are no formal Entry Requirements for this course, candidates do not need to have formal prior knowledge in the form of recognised qualifications, it is expected that candidates will have a basic understanding and practical awareness of Electrical Terminology.
Although for those not in an electrical based occupation, we recommend completion of our 1 day Basic Electrical Course.

Candidates must have minimum levels of literacy and numeracy to comply with Health and Safety aspects of the scheme and be able to complete and achieve the learning outcomes.
Candidates will be provided with a copy of the IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection & Testing of Electrical Equipment on the course and this can be used in the exam.

The external assessment will be an open-book, 50 multiple-choice questions via e-volve Online Assessment, which requires basic IT skills of mouse and keyboard. This will be taken at an agreed time as booked by our exam department. Due to the Safety Critical Designation of this award a minimum pass grade of 80% is required.
