Why not pursue a career as an accounting technician.
The AAT Education and Training Scheme offers 3 levels of study: Level 2 Certificate in Accounting, Level 3 Diploma in Accounting and Level 4 Diploma in Accounting. Students can commence study at the Certificate level with no previous accounting experience. Students must register with the AAT to be eligible to sit the examinations.
This programme is also available as an Apprenticeship giving young people aged 16 and over the opportunity to combine the experience of working, with the added benefit of college attendance on a day release (or evening) basis.
The subjects covered are:
• Processing bookkeeping transactions
• Control accounts, journals and the banking system
• Work effectively in accounting and finance
• Basic costing
• Computerised accounting
• Professional ethics in accounting and finance
5 GCSEs at Grade C or equivalent or above to include Maths and English. Students will be required to undertake a diagnostic assessment and provide a reference.
The majority of units are assessed by AAT computer based tests which are taken as students progress through the course. Other units are assessed via computer based projects.
On successful completion of the Level 2 Certificate in Accounting, students may progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Accounting.
Preference for enrolment will be given to those students who have passed all of their examinations at the first attempt with good feedback. Those students who have not passed their examinations at the first attempt, but have passed the overall level, will be placed on a waiting list.
