The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training develops practical teaching/training skills and prepares teachers and trainers to work in a wide range of contexts in the post-16 sector.

This qualification is suitable for anyone who:

  • wants to develop their knowledge and skills of teaching and training with a specific focus on practical teaching/delivery;

  • is currently teaching and/or training and wants to have their experience and practice accredited with a recognised qualification;

  • is not currently in a teaching or training role but has the desire to and can meet the minimum teaching practice requirements of 30 hours (evidence of teaching practice must be provided at interview).

  • This course normally runs for three and a half hours per week for a full academic year (September to June) at both our Lincoln and Newark campuses. Lincoln campus lessons will take place in the daytime (13.00-16.30h) starting on Tuesday 4 September 2018.

  • Applicants must have a minimum of 30 hours of teaching / training practice; this may be as part of a teaching training role or may be through voluntary teaching/training.

  • Evidence of at least 30 hours’ confirmed teaching practice over the duration of the programme from your employer or the organisation you are volunteering within must be provided at interview.

  • Confirmation from your employer or other organisation that you have skills equivalent to a Level 3 qualification or above, or copies of certificates of qualifications at Level 3 or above.

  • A copy of a Disclosure (DBS), valid for the organisation in which you are teaching/training.

  • We consider every application on an individual basis and would be happy to have an informal discussion should you wish to talk about your current qualifications and experience.

    This qualification is predominantly assessed through a portfolio of evidence demonstrating your construction of knowledge and practical ability to plan, deliver and reflect on teaching and training. You will complete 6 units during the course, which are as follows:

  • Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training;

  • Planning to meet the needs of learners in education and training;

  • Delivering education and training;

  • Assessing learners in education and training;

  • Using resources for education and training;

  • Action learning.

  • In addition to your portfolio work you will also be observed delivering lessons on at least 3 occasions by a tutor from the teacher training team. These observations are supportive and provide trainees with an opportunity to experiment with new strategies and then engage in a developmental conversation afterwards to support continued improvement in practice.

    This course will cost £1,316.00.
