If you want to pursue a career in sport then this is an excellent place to start. This course will provide you with the underpinning skills and knowledge to develop your skills within the sports sector. Successful completion of this course may allow you to progress on to a Level 3 Sports programme or in to a sports-related career or apprenticeship. During this course you will explore theoretically and practically the following topics at an appropriate level: Fitness for Sport and Exercise; Practical Sports Performance; and Anatomy and Physiology for Sports Performance; as well as four other optional units. This programme can be studied alongside a Specialist Sport Academy option of: Football Academy; Netball Academy; or Rackets Academy (Squash; Badminton; Tennis; Table Tennis).
You will need 4 GCSEs at Grade D and above or equivalent, to include 3 from: English Language, Mathematics, Science and PE (E.g. Grade 3 and above in English Language and Maths). You will also need evidence of specific and sustained interest and motivation in sport. You will be required to attend an interview and provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report) and an ability to cope with a programme of physical activity.
Assessment is a combination of internally-set coursework and practical assessments; and externally set assessment (on screen tests).
