Computing is one of the most popular career choices within the UK, as of February 2014 the UK government identified that ICT sector was worth £58 billion. Including the creative and digital industries, the IT sector employs over 1 million people or 3.7 per cent of the country’s active population. It is predicted that as a knowledge-based economy in the UK becomes a reality, that nearly half of the UK’s GDP will come from this sector within the next decade.

Studying a Level 1 IT qualification at Lincoln College can help you develop the vocational and interpersonal skills sought by today’s employers, building a set of key transferable skills such as research and planning, time management and working with others while studying sector units that cover activities such as solving technical IT problems, creating a website and developing a digital product.

The programme you will be studying is a BTEC IT Users course with English and Maths unless you achieved a C grade in either of them while you were at school. The course aimed at developing IT user skills, we teach you to use software products to enhance your work and life skills in a range of IT and Computing vocational contexts. The course balances theory with practice throughout each of the subject. Particular emphasis is placed on enhancing your professional and communication skills, problem solving abilities.

The program is delivered by staff from a team of eight subject specialists who have an average of 12 years computer science teaching experience; this is an important difference between us and most schools and sixth forms that normally only have one or possibly two teachers to teach the whole curriculum. Upon completing this course you can apply to progress onto one of two Level 2 programmes in Computing or Computer Servicing or it will help prepare you for an apprenticeship, progression is subject to successful completion of the Level1 course and a satisfactory end of year report.
You will need GCSE’s (minimum Grade G or equivalent). You will also be required to pass a skills test as-well as be screened in Maths and English. You will be required to attend an interview and provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report). At your interview, you will be required to demonstrate knowledge and a practical ability in IT and computing.
Assessment is a combination of internally and externally assessed units.
Fees listed are for those aged 19 years and over only. Fees are subject to change, concessions may apply. Please note that where stated, fees are for the first year of a course only. Please contact us for information and advice.
