A course designed to give new entrants to the engineering sector the underpinning knowledge and specific skills needed to meet the needs of modern engineering industries.
On successful completion of the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Engineering and the GCSE, further progression to BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Electrical and Electronic or Mechanical Engineering is possible the following year, or a suitable apprenticeship.
The programme consists of a range of engineering units, introducing Electrical and Electronic Technology along with some mechanical units; for example ‘Working Safely and Effectively in Engineering’, ‘Engineering Sciences’ and ‘Electronic Circuit Construction’.
You will need the following minimum GCSE grades, or equivalent: Mathematics grade 4, English grade 4 and a Science grade 3. You will also be required to pass a pre-selection interview and also provide a suitable reference (a school/college report).
Please be aware that you must achieve at least a grade C or equivalent in Mathematics.
You will require an electronic kit, purchased through Lincoln College, at a cost of £10 at enrolment.
Assessment is a combination of practical tests and written examinations.
