If you want to pursue a career involving horses, then this is an excellent place to start. This course will provide you with the underpinning skills and knowledge in horse-related subjects and gives you the experience required to further develop your understanding. Work experience is an important part of this course as it prepares you for employment within the horse industry. As part of your course you will be involved with Yard Skill sessions which take place on the yard you are based at. Successful completion of this programme could allow you to progress onto the Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Equine Management or a career in the horse industry. During this course you will explore both theoretical and practical subjects and you will study the following topics: Undertake work-related experience in the land-based industries; Carry out and understand the principles of feeding and watering horses; Undertake routine stable duties; and Undertake horse handling.
You will need 4 GCSEs at Grade D and above or equivalent (E.g. Grade 3 and above in Maths and English Language) . You will be required to attend an interview and taster day on ‘the yard’ and provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report) along with evidence of specific and sustained interest and motivation in horses and the horse industry; and an ability to cope with a programme of physical activity.
Assessment is a combination of coursework and practical assessments.
