If you want to pursue a career in the Fashion industry then this is an excellent place to start. You will begin by learning the basic skills necessary to develop your creativity within Fashion design and be encouraged to develop a personal style through research and product development. With a focus on women’s wear, you will explore; pattern cutting, garment construction, surface decoration, fabric manipulation, fashion illustration, fashion design, contextual studies and fashion presentation. The culmination of these skills will conclude in a self directed project where you will design and manufacture a small collection of garments that will reflect your own interests.
The course has been structured to equip you with a range of experience suitable for progression into a variety of paths within the realm of Fashion. You will gain the experience and qualifications necessary to build a strong portfolio for acceptance on to Higher Education courses.
Whilst on the course students will be involved in enrichment workshops and encouraged to blog and create an online presence, as well as seeking out work experience opportunities.
This qualification is awarded by the prestigious UAL Awarding Body, widely regarded as the best university for the Creative Arts in Europe. Established over 150 years Lincoln College of Art and Design at Christ's Hospital Terrace (in the Cathedral Quarter) will be your base. CHT has excellent facilities including a print room, 3D workshops (ceramics, glass, plaster, wood and metals), a dark room, 5 MAC suites, fashion workshop, photography and media studios and light and airy art studios.
You will require equipment such as: Graphite pencils, a black Edding 55 pen, A4 hardback sketchbook; A3 hardback sketchbook; eraser, craft knife, masking tape, synthetic brushes, a set of system acrylics, a memory stick, Pritt stick and an A1 folder. In addition you will need the following Fashion kit; a stitch unpicker, fabric shears, paper shears, embroidery scissors, a tape measure, a box of pins and hand sewing needles.
Other materials may be required in order to do the course. These will be supplied by the college and you will be required to pay a fee to use these within the studio
There is no exam. Coursework is all internally assessed through a combination of interim and formal assessments at the end of each project. The final project is graded pass, merit or distinction. The qualification is equivalent to achieving 3 A levels
