This course is suitable for anyone wishing to experience a wide variety of engineering activities, relevant to local industry. Training is at level 1 and of a predominantly practical nature. The aim is to provide both experience and knowledge on which to base future career and associated course decisions.
Successful completion gives a sound preparation for training or employment in production or maintenance, and/or progression to NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations.
The course includes a Level 1 Technical Certificate in Engineering & Technology and an NVQ Level 1 in Performing Engineering Operations. The units that you will study include: Working Safely in an Engineering Environment; Carrying Out Engineering Activities Efficiently and Effectively; Using and Communicating Technical Information; Making Components Using Hand Tools and Fitting Techniques; Using Lathes For Turning Operations.
You don’t need any formal qualifications to apply however the nature of both the learning and assessment required for the qualification is such that you will need literacy and numeracy skills. An ability to understand and carry out exact instructions is essential due to the nature of the activities. You will also be required to pass a trade test as-well as a literacy and numeracy test. You will be required to attend an interview and provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report).
Assessment is a combination of practical tests and written examinations.
