Our City & Guilds Furniture Making programme will provide you with the underpinning skills and knowledge to progress within the furniture making industry. The course is aimed at those with a passion for working with different timbers and in wanting to achieve excellent workmanship in both design and manufacture. Setting the bar high you will be surprised by what you can ultimately achieve.
The furniture department has now received over ten City & Guilds Medals of Excellence awarded due to the exceptional work or our learners. An excellent accolade for the student which will also help in their career post college.
Successful completion of this programme could allow you to progress onto our Level 3 Diploma in Cabinet Making/Level 2 Diploma in Wood Machining or alternatively onto a career within the industry. Lots of past students are now working within the industry throughout the country as well as a large number who are now self-employed or have their own businesses.
During the course, you will study: health and safety; timber technology; sustainability; furniture making by hand; fitments & fittings; design; drawing and career planning.
Learners will be inducted on a wide range of machinery and will be expected to machine their own components as required. There is a specific well ordered furniture making workshop with self contained classroom as well as a dedicated machine shop.
Enrichment - The college has undertaken work for the National Trust and any current learners can be involved in this unique opportunity to learn different skills and produce something for future generations to see.
