GCE A Level in Physics Level 3

Physics is an exciting subject which aims to explain how things work from the smallest to the largest of scales, from nanotechnology to the universe itself. It takes in practice and theory, specialist pure research and applications in the surroundings of everyday life. As a discipline, physics is used in many areas of professional activity including engineering, health and biomedicine, the public services and utilities, environmental monitoring, education, and computing. Such a course will prepare candidates to progress into further or higher education, to follow courses of a scientific or mathematical nature - preparing you for employment. During the course of the programme, you will study: Measurements and Errors; Particles and Radiation; Waves; Mechanics and Materials; Electricity; Further Mechanics and Thermal Physics; Fields and Their Consequences and Nuclear Physics.

You will need 5 GCSEs (minimum grade 4/C or above), to include Mathematics (minimum grade 6 or equivalent), English Language (minimum grade 4 or equivalent) and Physics (minimum grade 6 or equivalent) or 6/6 in Combined Science.  If you are not also studying AS Mathematics or AS Use of Mathematics, you will be required to take a Level 3 Free Standing Mathematics Qualification to help with your studies in Physics.

Assessment is a combination of written and practical examinations.
