If you want to pursue a career in the sports sector this is an excellent place to start. This 'new' Introductory Diploma is designed to engage learners in developing a range of skills and personal attributes in preparation for employment in the sports sector. It explores both theoretical and practical subjects and you will study the following topics: Being organised; Developing a personal progression plan; Working with others; Researching a topic; as well as specialised units from: How exercise affects the body; Training for fitness; Playing sport; Coaching skills in sport; Assisting in a sports activity; Contributing to running a sports event; Getting people active; and Keeping active and healthy. The Sports sector has a wide variety of employment and voluntary opportunities which students could become involved with as part of this Study Programme. This programme can be studied alongside a Specialist Sport Academy option of: Football Academy; Netball Academy; or Rackets Academy (Squash; Badminton; Tennis; Table Tennis).
Completion of Year 11 or equivalent; with achievement of some formal qualifications; along with evidence of a sustained interest and motivation in pursuing a career in sport; and the ability to cope with a programme of physical activity. Satisfactory report regarding attendance, attitude to study and potential for development.
