If you want to pursue a career in sport then this is an excellent place to start. This 'new' course will provide you with the opportunity to naturally progress onto year 2 of the programme where there are a number of vocationally-specific pathways for the students to choose from. Each pathway reflects a different career choice and can lead directly onto a relevant Foundation Degree available at Lincoln College if desired. The pathways available are: National Diploma in Sport (Coaching and Education); National Diploma in Sport (Health and Fitness); National Diploma in Sport (Football Coaching and Development in the Community). Successful progression onto these pathways will require the students to develop their Maths and/or English skills from initial entry. The qualification also carries UCAS points and is recognised by higher education providers as meeting, or contributing to, admission requirements for many relevant courses. Units studied in Year 1 will include: Anatomy and Physiology; Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Wellbeing; Professional Development in the Sports Industry; and Sports Leadership. Students will have the opportunity to achieve additional coaching qualifications for example CSLA and FA Level 1 courses as part of this Study Programme. Students will be required to conduct work experience on this programme where a DBS check may be required.
You will need 4 GCSEs Grade A* to C or equivalent (including either a Grade 4 or above in English Language or Maths; and a Grade C or above in either Science or PE). You will be required to attend an interview and provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report) along with evidence of specific and sustained interest and motivation in sport; and an ability to cope with a programme of physical activity.
Assessment is through a combination of internally-set and externally-set coursework, online assessments and practical assessments.
