This is a one year programme for learners whose ultimate goal is to access mainstream college programmes or gain employment but who require an additional year to mature and develop emotionally or socially. This course supports learners who may have had negative experiences in previous educational settings who may have emotional / behavioural / social issues. Academically they are typically functioning at GCSE level / Entry 3 or Level 1 (with no previous Level 2 or higher qualifications). Vocational option routes for learners are Care, Construction, Paint & Decorating, Hospitality & Catering, Car Valeting/Enterprise, Retail, Customer Care or Sport. Study programmes – students follow an individualised programme of study, moving onto further learning, greater independence or work and adult life. All full-time programmes have the following strands of learning: • Vocational – practical skills in their chosen subject and area of learning interest • Functional Skills – English and Maths • Tutorials/Enrichment activities • Employability skills and personal development • Actual or simulated work experience in enterprise based activities.
You don’t need any formal qualifications to apply but it is advisable that you are working at entry level and show willingness to work and a desire to progress. You should be able to demonstrate adequate literacy skills, at Entry Level 3.
Assessment is a collation of workplace portfolios and external exams in Mathematics, English and ICT.
