This 'new' Technical Diploma is for learners who want to start a career in sport and physical activity. It is an ideal qualification for learners intending to progress directly to employment in sport and activity leadership, or to an apprenticeship, as opposed to continuing to study at Level 3 and higher. During this course you will explore theoretically and practically the following topics at an appropriate level: Leading Sport Safely and Effectively; Working in Sport and Activity Leadership; Leading Sport and Physical Activity; Coaching Sport; and Developing Skills for Sport and Activity Leadership . This programme can be studied alongside a Specialist Sport Academy option of: Football Academy; Netball Academy; or Rackets Academy (Squash; Badminton; Tennis; Table Tennis).
You will need 4 GCSEs at Grade D and above or equivalent, to include 3 from: English Language, Mathematics, Science and PE (E.g. Grade 3 and above in English Language and Maths). You will also need evidence of specific and sustained interest and motivation in sport. You will be required to attend an interview and provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report) and an ability to cope with a programme of physical activity.
Assessment is a combination of internally-set coursework and practical assessments; and externally set assessment (on screen tests).
