If you want to pursue a career in musical instrument craft then this is an excellent place to start. This Foundation year is the first in a four year programme and will provide you with the underpinning skills and knowledge to progress through the levels of violin making and repair.
Upon successful completion you will be able to progress onto the first year of Level 3 Intermediate Violin Making and Instrument Repair, preparing you for progression or employment in the sector.
During this course you will study: an introduction to the skills used in Violin Making; development of personal skills; making templates and materials used; making your own precision tools – this work will complete the Level 2 Performance Engineering Operations qualification.
You will need to already hold a Level 1 Cabinet Making qualification or have equivalent woodworking experience. A good command of spoken and written English is also essential and those from outside the UK and EU must also have a qualification in English at or above level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for languages in order to apply for a Tier 4 student visa.
You will be required to attend an interview and provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report).
Assessment is through practical work.
