Employability is the term used for the skills and experiences that employers will look for when considering whether you are suitable for their business.

They will look for interpersonal and communication skills, team working and confidence, and all of our courses will enhance your skills in these areas.

Qualifications Guide

We offer a range of Higher Education qualifications at various levels.

Access courses

Access programmes are established nationally as an alternative to A level entry to degree and diploma programmes. They provide entry to a degree or diploma with no previous qualifications and provide grounding in the skills and knowledge necessary to successfully progress to a higher education course. We offer various ‘pathways’ that allow entry onto specific degree courses.

HNC (Higher National Certificate)

An HNC is ideal for anyone who wants an introduction to their chosen subject. Most students who choose to study for an HNC do so part time over two years while they continue to work. There is the option to do additional modules to progress to an HND, and from there to top up to a full Bachelors Degree.

HND (Higher National Diploma)

HNDs are available in a wide range of subjects – mainly vocational. HNC/HNDs are well known by employers so this will increase your employability. Entry requirements are generally lower than those needed for degrees. A full time HND will probably take 2 years but longer if it includes an industrial placement. There is the option to top-up to a full degree with further study, either at Lincoln College or other local universities.

Professional qualifications

The college offers several qualifications accredited by professional organisations, such as the ILM and AAT. These qualifications are designed with the needs of the profession in mind, and are often the only route into a given profession.

Foundation Degrees (FdSc & FdA)

These two year degree courses are a cheaper and faster alternative to traditional three year undergraduate courses. They combine the level of learning offered by a degree programme, with practical, commercial experience. Foundation degrees are particularly popular with employers for a number of reasons: they enhance the knowledge and skills of existing employees; increase productivity and competitiveness; change the skill set of existing employees; develop employees within the business and train new employees to learn their job quicker. Foundation degrees normally take two years if studied full time and are a valuable qualification in their own right. They can also be a stepping stone to undergraduate degrees and other studies. Foundation Degrees are awarded in Art (FdA) or Science (FdSc).

Degrees

The title of undergraduate degrees varies depending on the subject studied, from a BA (Bachelor of Arts) to a BSc (Bachelor of Science). Following completion of a first degree, some people progress to a postgraduate degree, either taught for example, an MA (Master of Arts) or a research programme, often called a doctorate, and awarded with a PhD or Doctor of Philosophy.

Facilities

We have a range of fantastic facilities available to students.

At Lincoln College you have the incredible advantage of a state-of-the-art gym with 40 training stations, climbing walls, squash and badminton courts, basketball courts, five-aside football pitches and an outdoor gym with training track all on-campus at Deans Sport and Leisure. We offer some of the best facilities in the city and they are all available to our students at a discounted rate.

If you need to unwind there's no better place to do it than our luxury spa with spa pool, steam rooms, ice bath and massage service.

And if you need to spruce up for the weekend you can pop in to our heavily-discounted hair and beauty salons.

Our refectories serve great hot and cold food options and we even have our own high-end restaurant where all of the food is prepared and served by our Catering and Hospitality students.

Our well stocked Library provides access to the books for your course, along with a collection of electronic resources including online academic  journals to support you in your studies.  Experienced Library staff are on hand to provide group and one to one study support for your research and study needs.
