Health and Well-being

The Lincoln College Group is committed to fostering a positive working environment that promotes and protects the physical and mental wellbeing of its staff. It understands that its staff are its most valuable resource and as a result their health and wellbeing is crucial to the effective running of all aspects of the organisation.

The Lincoln College Group is committed to fostering a positive working environment that promotes and protects the physical and mental wellbeing of its staff.  It understands that its staff are its most valuable resource and as a result their health and wellbeing is crucial to the effective running of all aspects of the organisation.

A Health and Wellbeing strategy is in place which makes every effort to address the College’s Health and Wellbeing needs, as identified as part of the STEP (Strategic Transformation of Educational Provision) Organisational Development review.  Further information regarding the STEP review can be found under the Critical Enablers – Organisational Development section of the Lincoln College Group 2016-2019 strategy.

The Health and Wellbeing strategy identifies 5 key areas of priority focus.  These are outlined below (in no particular order):

  • Promote mental and physical health equally.
  • A stronger focus on prevention, with more people managing their own conditions.
  • Get more people, more physically active, more often (if they are able to do so and find suitable alternatives if not).
  • A valued, well trained and supported workforce.
  • Promoting work-life balance opportunities to all staff across the organisation to enhance their individual wellbeing.

Our Health and Wellbeing strategy is implemented by:

  • Having a structured surveying of staff, analysis and communication.
  • Creating a revised and improved Health and Wellbeing group remit, with key roles and responsibilities and an annual budget allowance.
  • Ensuring compulsory workforce development to enable staff to identify and be aware of both their own and others health, including Mental Health Awareness and Stress Management training.
  • Implementing and advertising an annual calendar of Health and Wellbeing events, activities and supportive information.
  • Providing healthy eating promotions for staff in collaboration with Chartwells and through the Perkbox Wellness Hub to identify health meal plans and recipes.
  • Exceptional Communication – Workplace posts used to promote fitness and wellbeing initiatives available through the Perkbox Wellness Hub eg. Fitness videos and Mindfulness exercises.
  • Regular promotion of the college Health and Safety policies and practices to ensure awareness, in particular highlighting the importance of DSE and correct posture and the support available.
  • Promotion of college policies and factsheets available to staff, providing useful support, contacts and information. 

The college will also provide the following health and lifestyle initiatives:

  • Access to the college’s Deans Sports & Leisure Centre with access to spa and beauty facilities at a reduced rate.
  • Access to the Complementary Medicine Clinic within Deans which offers herbal medicine and acupuncture. All consultations are free for college staff plus a 20% discount on medicines and treatments.
  • Access to Osteoporosis Screening at a reduced rate through Osteo Care East Midlands every two years.
  • Access to Work initiative which may be able to provide employees and the college with advice and support if an employees health or disability affects the way they do their job.
  • Access to the Halfords Cycle2Work initiative.
  • BIG Bus Deal developed by Stagecoach East Midlands in conjunction with the Lincoln Business Improvement Group.
  • Access to Westfield Health Scheme.
  • Access to Childcare Vouchers.
  • Free access to telephone Counselling services.
  • Free work station assessments.
  • Access to private Personal Healthcare Scheme.
  • Access to National Dental Plan.
  • Well Persons Screening, a voluntary health programme which is offered by RPS Occupational Health Service.
  • Special Leave of Absence Policy, which supports staff with additional time off to deal with personal or urgent issues.
  • Work-Life Balance Policy which promotes flexible working options for all staff.  
Perkbox Wellness Hub

In addition to having access to hundreds of big brand discounts, employees of the Lincoln College Group have access to their very own healthy haven through the Perkbox Wellness hub.  Employees can get their wellness on with Perkbox's collection of home workouts, yoga classes, cookery tutorials, techniques to help get a better night sleeps, relaxation videos, articles on work life balance and much more.

Once registered with Perkbox, our employees have access to hundreds of online classes, ranging from home workouts, to lunch time yoga sessions.  Everything on the Wellness Hub is designed to provide users with short bursts of clean living - perfect for those with a busy lifestyle.
