Lincoln College Group is determined to ensure people in Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and in its colleges abroad are not disadvantaged by Coronavirus-related social distancing.
Lincoln, Newark and Gainsborough colleges are continuing to teach and train through the Coronavirus lockdown across further education, apprenticeships and higher education.
Avoiding too many distractions and remaining focussed have guided Matthew Poole through his studies at home.
Matthew is studying Creative Media Production at Level 3 at Newark College and has had to adapt his study and lifestyle around the changes following the coronavirus restrictions.
And although admitting it has been a challenge and at times frustrating, his study continues despite the changes.
“I’d be lying if I said it has been easy. There are plenty of distractions at home, specifically things such as video games. I’ve become a Football Manger addict over the past two months. Luckily, I’ve put myself in a really good position throughout the year, so I’m not behind on anything, which means I don’t have to rush to get things done.”
Matthew is in his second year of the course, which follows on neatly from the Creative I-Media at Level 2 he completed with a Merit grade in 2018. He enjoys the course and has adapted his study during lockdown to remain in regular contact with tutors.
“I’ve been using Microsoft Teams to communicate with both my tutors. They’ve sent me feedback on any documents that I’ve produced as well as just keeping in general contact. They’ve been really helpful throughout the lockdown, constantly sending me updates about how we’re going to get marked, what things I need to improve upon and things I’ve done well.”
Matthew is set to continue his studies after Newark College at the University of Lincoln and also hopes to set up a media-related work placement.
“I’ve applied for a ‘Creative Media Production’ course at the University of Lincoln, and have accepted my unconditional offer from them. This course is similar to what I’ve studied at Newark College, and it will focus on television as well as design such as 3D modelling.
“I’m hoping for work experience opportunities whilst I’m at Lincoln, something along the lines of working with Lincoln City FCs media team on match days in co-operation with the University, as this is what I’d love to do in the future.”
