Former Chief of Air Staff Sir Michael Graydon visited Lincoln College today to present prizes to the winners of a British Values essay writing competition.
Sir Michael, who is also currently chair of an Academy Trust, shortlisted three essays on the core themes of democracy, individual liberty, tolerance and the rule of law.
The shortlisted student authors led team presentations and took part in a debate in the final stage of the competition.
Commenting on the winner, Jocob, Sir Michael said: “I was really impressed with the way he tackled a complex range of issues in such a crisp and well written manner, enabling him to reach very sensible conclusions.”
He added: “It was a pleasure to meet the Air & Defence Career College students, which I hope will go on to fill skills gaps in the Royal Air Force and the wider air and defence industries.”
Lincoln College Group CEO Gary Headland said: “It was a real honour to host Sir Michael today. For our students to meet and debate with a former Chief of Air Staff is an amazing experience for them so early in their careers.
“The competition and debate was also a really great way of exploring and developing our thoughts and attitudes towards British values – which we view at the college as universal human values.”
