Professor heads back to college for teaching festival talk

Alumna Gillian Hampden-Thompson, Professor of Education at the University of Sussex returned to Lincoln College to deliver an inspiring talk to employees at the College’s Learning and Teaching Festival (LAT Fest) on Wednesday.

The College’s LAT Fest is an annual event for both teaching and support staff that gives them the opportunity to learn new skills and focus on their health and wellbeing. Sessions ranges from yoga and healthy eating to teaching theory and practice, as well as team building excersises in the College's on-site escape rooms.

Gillian attended Lincoln College for three years during her teens where she studied Sport - leaving in 1988.

She’s since gone on to study her master’s degree and Ph.D. in the USA where she lived for 11 years before returning to the UK as Director of Research in the Department of Education at the University of York.

She now holds the position of Professor of Education at the University of Sussex where she conducts research and teaches.

The former student spoke of her experiences at the College:

“I am absolutely delighted to be here today – I spent three years of my life in this very building.

“Attending Lincoln College was truly transformational for me. To be surrounded by a team of professionals that gave us their upmost support was invaluable - attending an FE college gave me so much confidence.

“During my visit today I’ve been amazed at the scope and depth of the curriculum here at Lincoln, not only due to the wide range of subject areas but also the level of study available – to me this is priceless.”
