Lincoln College Open Day
09 November, 2019 – 10:00AM - 2:00PM
Group Captain Katherine Wilson OBE visited the Air & Defence Career College on Wednesday 12 June to talk to learners about her extensive and successful career in the Royal Air Force.
The Group Captain delivered an inspiring and motivating speech, speaking of her career from entry into the RAF in 1997 as an Officer, where she trained at RAF Crianwell, to her appointment as Station Commander at RAF Halton, the training station for all airmen and airwomen joining the Royal Air Force.
She said: “The biggest thing for me is I can see how much I've changed and learnt over my time in the Air Force, not just in the sense of my career but in myself too”.
“The job satisfaction I’ve gained from joining the RAF has been enormous”.
“My biggest advice to you for joining is to get fit before you start. Courses at colleges like this help hugely as they prepare you for what will be expected at basic training”.
When asked on what she would say to inspire young women to loin the RAF she said: “It is the most varied and exciting job I've ever had.”
“I've got to where I am today by making the most of every opportunity the RAF has given me.”
“Know who you are, what your strengths are, and know what your weaknesses are to enable you to turn them into positives.”
Katherine is the second ever female station Commander at RAF Halton.
