Josh Pengelly from Newark College has gained a traditional apprenticeship at the famous Edward Barnsley Workshop.
The Edward Barnsley Workshop in rural Hampshire has been making furniture since the 1920s.
Josh was one of numerous candidates who had to undergo practical assessments as part of the application process and has since been awarded the only apprenticeship with the Business.
After completing his Level 2 and 3 furniture making courses with distinction, Josh went on to study a Level 2 in wood machining, again completing with distinction.
Josh said: “I can't thank my tutor Richard Preece and technician Paul Cobb enough for all of the amazing support and guidance I've received over the last few years – I really couldn’t have done it without them.
“This is actually my second time applying for the apprenticeship. I applied last year however later withdrew my application and took another one year course at Newark College to develop my skills further.
“I love what I do and these courses have allowed me to massively bring on my skills and develop the passion and ambition I now have.”
Josh has also taken up work experience with The National Trust during his studies at the College.
