Students create cathedral playhouse for kids at Lincolnshire Show

Lincoln Cathedral approached Lincoln College with the brief to build a miniature version of the landmark for their stand at the show.

Learners Isaac Hunter and Harry Hall collaborated with technicians Sara Dixon (Lincoln College) and Kevin Hallsworth (University of Lincoln) to design and build the structure.

They also worked with local firm Timmins Engineering and Construction, who supplied materials as well as Designblok, ran by the University of Lincoln.

Sara said: “The Cathedral initially asked us to use cardboard to build the structure.

“Isaac and Harry decided to develop the brief further by creating the piece out of MDF - which they felt would be better quality and more robust so the children could run around in it freely.

“It’s also meant that the Cathedral hope to display it as a permanent fixture in the future.

“The students have taken a real life project and made it something amazing – they’re now well on their way to the start of their careers.

“This experience has been invaluable to them.”

Isaac said: “It was an absolute pleasure to create something that the children really enjoyed interacting with – the whole project was a massive undertaking and learning curve but really worth it.

“A big thank you to everybody that helped out.”

Harry said: “I feel this project has been the most rewarding as its taught me how to work with a client.”

Kevin said: “Designblok were delighted to have the opportunity to work with Lincoln College and it’s students to help create such an interesting project.

“Hopefully many hours of fun will be enjoyed by all those who use the playhouse.”

Isaac will be going on to study fine art at the University of Norwich while Harry is already studying an architecture apprenticeship with Timmins Engineering and Construction.
