Learners from both Lincoln and Newark College competed for the East Midlands at the AoC Sport National Championships in Nottingham.
Students from various subject areas competed in a number of events over the weekend tournament finishing in sixth place overall.
The event engages students in competitive sport and is the largest annual sporting event in the UK with this year’s competition being held at the University of Nottingham.
College teams and individual competitors qualify to represent the region at the Championships by working their way through regional tournaments hosted throughout the year by AoC Sport.
Over 13 sports are played at the tournament – including badminton, seven-a-side football, hockey and indoor cricket with over 1,700 college students taking part each year.
Sport Learning and Skills Lead at Lincoln College, Steven Horsefield said “Well done to all that took part in a another enjoyable and successful weekend at the Championships.
“We had some great successes on the day - including a first-place finish in the women’s squash event by one of our Level 3 Sport students Katie Wells who won a gold medal.”
Katie said “I found it a great honour to represent both Lincoln College and the East Midlands in the competition and to have had the added privilege of being one of the flag bearers for the event.
“The event is always well organised and supported and is a great showcase of sporting talent from across the country.”
