Students restore furniture for local community project

Foundation learners from Lincoln College have been working with local charity Restore to develop their skills in order to support the Charity with their furniture donation scheme.

The Charity based on the Allenby Trading Estate in Lincoln began offering Lincoln College students work experience placements during 2018.

The partnership later evolved to Restore providing the learners with furniture to renovate while studying at college.

Construction students use their acquired carpentry and wood-working skils to sand, repair and finish the furniture so that when it is returned to the Restore warehouse it an go into their Furniture Aid Programme.

The programme provides furniture and funds to people in need including those that have faced homelessness and domestic abuse.

Entry to Education lecturer Chris Newboult-Robertson said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with Restore Furniture.

“This gives our students the opportunity to practice the different skills they learn throughout the course as well as the chance to give back to the local community.

“The students have really enjoyed being part of this project and produced some outstanding pieces of work. It’s been a real pleasure to see them work so hard to produce some fantastic restored items of furniture.”
